Privacy policy
Updated 21 October 2026. Garage Sales Search is operated by Dirk Griffioen. Contact support@garagesalessearch.com about this policy or your information.
Information we use
- When you post, we receive your sale title, description, street address, dates, local times, categories, photos and email. We use these to create, display and manage your listing and send service emails.
- Searches use the place or coordinates you provide. If you choose your browser’s location option, we use the location you permit it to share. You can type a place instead.
- Alert subscriptions use your email and chosen area to send nearby sale notifications.
- Assistant submissions include the details you authorise the assistant to send, a request identifier, verification information and, for management, a private listing credential. We keep draft status and revision information to prevent duplicate posts and conflicting edits.
- Hosting and analytics services process technical request and usage information. We use traffic measurements and limited sign-sharing events to understand use of the site. We use browser session storage to remember a sign referral during a visit.
What becomes public
Published titles, descriptions, addresses, map coordinates, dates, times, categories and photos are public on the website and through the directory API. They may appear in search engines, connected assistants and nearby subscriber emails.
Your posting email, verification code and edit credential are not included in public listing fields. Anything you put into a public description or photo can still be seen by others. Only include information you have permission to publish.
Assistants and verification
The site does not run an AI model. A connected assistant sends tool requests to our service. We receive the fields supplied in those requests; we do not request your entire chat history or other connected accounts.
Verification drafts stay private until a valid code is supplied. Verification codes are stored as hashes. With the ChatGPT connection, verification and publication happen on our website; the assistant receives only the public link and status. Keep verification and edit codes out of ChatGPT. Other direct API clients can receive a private management credential after verified publication. Your assistant provider handles your conversation under its own privacy terms.
Service providers and sharing
We use Vercel for hosting and analytics, Supabase for database and photo storage, Resend for email, and LocationIQ to turn addresses or coordinates into map locations. The site also loads OpenStreetMap tiles. These services receive the information needed for their functions; for example, LocationIQ receives a search place or sale address, and Resend receives recipient addresses and email content.
These providers may process information outside your country, including the United States. Our LocationIQ integration uses its US endpoint. Other processing locations depend on the provider and service configuration. Contact us for information about a particular request.
We may also disclose information when required by law or when necessary to investigate misuse and protect the service. Public listings can be copied by third parties; cancelling a listing cannot remove copies or emails already received.
Retention and security
The scheduled cleanup removes sale records and site-hosted photos once a sale ended more than 14 days ago. Agent drafts are eligible for cleanup seven days after expiry, and agent rate-limit records after two days. Cleanup depends on successful scheduled runs; backups and service-provider records may persist separately.
Cancellation removes a listing from public access but does not immediately erase its stored record. Unsubscribing removes the alert subscription. Contact us for other deletion requests.
Private submission data is restricted to the service backend. Agent requests are rate-limited, and verification codes expire after 30 minutes with a five-attempt limit. Keep your edit code private because it authorises changes to your listing.
Your choices and requests
You can edit or cancel your listing, unsubscribe from email alerts, decline browser location access, or disconnect your assistant. Disconnecting an assistant does not delete a published listing.
For access, correction, deletion or a privacy complaint, email support@garagesalessearch.com with the relevant listing link and your request. We may need to verify ownership before releasing or changing private information. We will review your request, investigate any complaint and respond using the contact details you provide.
If you remain dissatisfied, you can seek guidance from the privacy regulator in your country. In Australia, the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner explains when and how it can consider a complaint.
Changes to this policy
We will update this page and its date when our practices change. Contact us if you need clarification about how information was handled.
